Gadgets, Machines and Solar Cells

Jan. 27, 2013

Sophomore Steve Gutschenritter (left) and senior Dez Broeg (center) test a solar cell with Dr. Timothy Ehler in their Interim class "How Things Work." The class – designed for students who are curious about gadgets and machines – focuses on understanding the mechanisms and principles behind technological wonders while exploring the basic scientific principles that make things work.

In addition to constructing and testing a solar cell, the class toured AGCO in Jackson, Minn., which designs, manufactures and distributes agricultural machinery such as Massey Ferguson and Challenger products. Dr. Ehler is associate professor of chemistry.
