The BVU School of Education has “adopted” an elementary school classroom at Field Club Elementary in Omaha, Nebraska. Each classroom teacher at the school was asked to connect with their alma mater about the adoption program, so Diane (Bohr) Walter, Class of 1980, contacted BVU to participate and adopt her first grade class.
Dr. Paul Theobald, Dean of the School of Education and professor of education, recently visited the classroom and gave the students BVU t-shirts that they will wear on Fridays. The school is conducting the adoption program to help young students learn more about higher education and recognize the possibilities that come with a college education to prepare them for the future.
“Field Club Elementary has done a wonderful thing in encouraging colleges and universities to ‘adopt’ their classrooms. Mrs. Walter’s kids know all about BVU, and they are intensely interested in learning more,” said Dr. Theobald. “In a few weeks, we will set up a pen-pal arrangement between Field Club students and teacher education candidates here at BVU. Everyone will benefit from the experience.”
