Buena Vista University Interim Director of Athletics Brian Van Haaften has announced that Mitch Brunick will take over as the university’s head men’s and women’s golf coach beginning this fall.
Brunick, 2012 graduate of BVU, takes over a men’s program that he helped guide to a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Iowa Conference Men’s Golf Championships, with a sixth-place individual performance of his own. That followed a 14th-place individual finish as a junior in 2011.
As a senior, he finished with five top-10 individual performances and a career-best scoring average of 78.1, a mark that ranked 13th among all IIAC golfers.
“I am honored to be able to coach my alma mater,” says Brunick.” “It is a privilege to be able to work with the program and school to achieve the best we can. It has always been a dream to coach at the collegiate level and it works well that I am able to do so at BVU. I want to be there to help in any way, shape, or form to accomplish our goals and work toward a conference title.”
In addition to his duties as men’s coach, he will also direct the women’s team which has had an all-conference performer in each of the last two seasons and has posted three straight sixth-place IIAC Championship finishes.
“We are happy to have Mitch take over as the new golf coach”, says Van Haaften. “He will do a really nice job teaching the game, and will be a solid recruiter for our programs.”
Brunick replaces men’s coach Eric Wiebers and women’s coach Chelsea Anderson, who each stepped aside to pursue other career opportunities following the end of the 2011-12 school year.
