Senior Tyler Huntsman scored his second career goal on Saturday afternoon against the University of Dubuque, but it was the Spartans scoring four first half goals before adding two more in the second for the 6-1 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) victory.
Dubuque (11-4-1, 5-1 IIAC), which totaled 18 first half shots, got on the board nearly seven minutes into the match before pushing the lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals over the next 10 minutes. The Spartans took a 4-0 lead into halftime with their fourth goal midway through the half.
Huntsman cut the Beaver deficit to 4-1 with his second goal of the year five minutes into the second half on a pass from Alex Chavez.
UD pushed the margin back to four just five minutes later before adding the match's final goal with under six minutes left to play.
Huntsman and fellow senior Eric Karita, who were both recognized before the match as part of the Senior Day recognition, finished the match with two shots each. Sophomore Joey Stivers led the Beavers with three shots. The trio also had one shot-on-goal each.
Freshman Michael Rydberg got the start in-goal for BVU and played the first 70:31 before Jordan Balster came on to play the final 19:29.
