The Buena Vista volleyball team wrapped up its 2012 home schedule on Wednesday night against Luther College, and after being edged in the first two sets, the Beavers responded with a convincing win in the third set, but the Norse went on to take the fourth set and the match.
BVU held a narrow 19-17 lead late in the opening set, but the Norse rolled off three straight points, forcing a BVU timeout. The Beavers were unable to get enough of a rally going and dropped the set, 25-22.
The Norse held a quick lead to start the second set before BVU pulled even at 8-8, and the match went back-and forth from there with neither team leading by more than three.
It was all Beavers in the third frame, as they scored 10 of the first 13 points in the set, and went on to take the set, 25-10.
Luther broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth set with five straight points and BVU was never able to get back any closer than four the rest of the way, as the Norse finished the match with a 25-16 triumph.
Junior Chelsea Clayton chalked up 17 kills, while sophomore Kirsten Van Zuiden added 15, as the Beavers posted a .312 hitting percentage for the match - its highest against any conference foe this season.
Sophomore Courtney Van Haaften dished out 32 assists and added four digs. Jordan Henningsen chalked up 15 digs with Clayton adding three total blocks.
Buena Vista is now 4-24 overall this season (0-7 IIAC) and will wrap up the year at the Augustana College (Ill.) Invite this Friday and Saturday. It will begin play at 6:00pm Friday night against Iowa Wesleyan.
