Life on Campus

Buena Vista means "beautiful view." That includes stunning Storm Lake—and our energetic Beaver community.

A Dynamic Community

Between classes, internships, research, and—oh right—meals, it's hard to believe how much fun you can squeeze into four years. Whether you're playing broomball on frozen Storm Lake, cheering one of our basketball teams, or taking a peaceful stroll along our lakeshore trail, there's a BVU for every state of mind, body, and soul.

Get Connected

Learn how we support the whole student. Tell us a bit about yourself, and we'll be in touch with the scoop about BVU.

Team Player

From his first day on campus, Matt’s coaches and professors never stopped supporting him in getting to the next level. And he always stepped up to the challenge. The leadership skills and experience he gained have put him right out in front, from soccer player to captain of the team, from student to an education major, on track to be a teacher. At BVU, Matt learned he can go further and do more than he ever thought possible. And that’s right where he belongs.

"I learned that I could do more than I ever expected. After I graduate, my first job will be sharing that with my own students."

— Matt Tennyson

Your Passion, Our Mission

Immerse yourself in our student organizations and athletics. We have nearly 50 clubs, 20+ athletic teams, and countless intramural sports and service opportunities. Play a starring role or help out behind the scenes-you're bound to find a new reason to get excited.

Student Organizations & Intramurals

Yearning for peers who love hiking, dancing, or accounting as much as you do? Your tribe is waiting for you—and if not, you can create one. Our students' wide-ranging interests include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, cooking, journalism, and student government.

How about a little friendly competition? Meet new friends playing an intramural sport, such as flag football or tennis. Want to explore the great outdoors around Storm Lake and beyond? Borrow our camping equipment and kayaks, or go exploring with the Outdoor Adventure Club.

We stop everything for Buenafication Day, helping neighbors on and off campus. Other student initiatives include:

BVU Buddies - mentoring Storm Lake Middle School students

Fiesta Latina - an annual celebration of Latina heritage that raises donations for local nonprofits

Alternate Week of Off-Site Learning (AWOL) - spring break service trips to inner cities, rural areas, impoverished countries and more

Sports at BVU create instant community. One-third of our students are also athletes, competing on campus and as far away as Arizona and Australia. Are you a leader in your sport? We'll recruit you to become a leader in your career, too.

Whether you're competing on the field or cheering from the stands, you'll get caught up in the excitement, skill, and determination behind Beaver Pride.
