Students majoring in physical education and coaching learn in a variety of contexts including micro teaching within classrooms in area school districts, and through multiple opportunities to work with those with disabilities within community-based settings and local facilities.
As early as day one, BVU physical education and coaching majors are working on the methodology of teaching P.E. in their courses, allowing them to observe other professional educators right away. BVU students have the opportunity to practice teaching in a number of different settings even before their student teaching begins as well, setting them apart from other candidates in the field. School districts often contact BVU looking for future hires before graduation.

BVU students majoring in physical education and coaching often add kinesiology/exercise science for a double major, adding a broader perspective.
BVU is a leader in education graduates, and it’s for a reason. Our classrooms boast SMART Boards, 3D printers, and other equipment, providing collaboration opportunities.
Physical Education grads work locally, throughout the state of Iowa, Minnesota, and through a strong relationship with Washington D.C. public schools.
The physical education and coaching major specifically allows students to be licensed to teach K-8 and 5-12 physical education and to coach at all grade levels. It is recommended that students with this emphasis complete another teaching endorsement to increase the possibilities of placement.
A minor is strongly recommended.
Note: The student must select at least one course from each area below to total 24 credit hours for the coaching minor. Remaining hours to reach 24 must also come from the courses listed below.
A maximum of two credits will count towards the minor.
This K-12 coaching authorization meets the minimum state requirements for coaching.
