Friday, March 13, 2020 Update: In an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and protect our campus community and beyond, Buena Vista University has canceled all BVU-sponsored events and events hosted at the University through Monday, April 13, 2020. As a result, we have decided to cancel the School of Education Conference on March 27-28. For any questions regarding this event’s cancellation, please reach out below.

  • Develop techniques to implement and produce a positive impact on the mental wellness of the youth in Iowa.
  • Enrich your understanding of different perspectives and common goals in support of all children.
  • Gain knowledge of best practices and the latest research in children’s mental health and related fields.
  • Create a safe, fun, and collaborative learning environment where relationships between stakeholders can evolve.

The conference begins on Friday, March 27 at 1 p.m. and ends on Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m. Registration is $60 per person, and a discounted fee of $40 is available for students not attending Buena Vista University. The fee is waived for BVU students, faculty, and staff. The registration deadline is March 13.

Keynote Presentations

We are pleased to present two enlightening and instructive keynote presentations.

Dr. Walter Roberts will speak on Building the Foundation for Youth Mental Health, offering suggestions for professional school counselors, mental health practitioners, parents, families, teachers, administrators, and other professionals engaged with youth to return home to improve their communities.

Dr. Jennifer Ulie-Wells will lead a conversation on Schools as Spaces of Healing, sharing her story of trauma, suicidal ideation, and how extra adults in her life kept her alive. This session will explore how schools can create spaces of healing.
