BVU's sociology education program provides students with a keen ability to analyze human social behavior from humanistic and objective viewpoints- and apply these skills to a 5-12 classroom setting.

The study of sociology encourages students to see the individual’s role in the larger cultural setting.

BVU’s sociology program prepares future educators to become experts in instructing how the world works around them, while also sharpening students’ problem solving, communication, and critical thinking skills.  As a sociology minor seeking 5-12 teacher certification, you can look forward to gaining:

  • Extensive and varied field experience opportunities and the knowledge and skills needed to be a high-quality educator
  • Certification to teach grades 5-12 from the State of Iowa
  • Council Bluffs
