Gilley Named the Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Conference has announced that Buena Vista senior center Malarie Gilley was been named the IIAC Female Athlete of the Week, for the period ending November 24.

Gilley turned in a pair of monster performances to end last week and help the Beavers record a pair of victories during the Wheaton College (Ill.) Beth Baker Tournament.

During BVU's 87-83 victory over St. Mary's (Ind.) on Friday night, Gilley turned in a career-high 22 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, while pulling down 13 boards and posting three blocks.  The following afternoon during a 108-82 Beaver triumph over Whittier, she set another career-best with 27 points, on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 13-of-13 at the charity stripe.

In the two games, she connected on 68 percent of her attempts from the field and now ranks second in the league, shooting 65.1 percent for the year.  She leads all Iowa Conference players in scoring (20.5ppg) and blocked shots per game (2.50).

It's the third straight week that Buena Vista has landed an Athlete of the Week honor, but the first on the women's side.  This marks the first time that Gilley has landed the accolades in her career.
