Mary Barnes

• Admissions Counselor

Mary began her collegiate journey at the University of Iowa, where she competed on the rowing team. However, she ultimately found her home when she transferred to Buena Vista University to rodeo with her older sister, Micah. Together, they formed the first official college rodeo team here at BVU.

At BVU, Mary studied business, focusing on marketing, while working as a Resident Assistant. She earned the Clifford A. Rae Academic Achievement Award, graduated summa cum laude, and was recognized as Senior of the Year.

Following graduation, Mary planned to teach English as a foreign language abroad, but the pandemic caused her to change her plans and she became an Assistant Coach for the Women’s Basketball team at BVU. Now in her new role as an Admissions Counselor, Mary hopes to reveal the benefits of a smaller university to potential students. She is also looking forward to serving those around her while helping future BVU students find their homes away from home.
