Identity Theft

In an ongoing effort to manage your credit, it is increasingly more important that you take steps necessary to protect your identity. Identity theft occurs when someone obtains important personal information, such as your name, address, date of birth, social security number, mother's maiden name, or account numbers to commit fraud or theft. Visit www.iowaattorneygeneral.org/consumer/advisories/ident_theft.html for information and guidance on how you can protect your identity.

In Iowa, consumers can request one free credit report every 12 months from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. If your identity has been stolen, it will be evident on these reports so we encourage you to request them yearly. To request your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call 877.322.8228.
