Dr. Sugiura plays a primary role in maintaining the undergraduate athletic training curriculum and prepares to build the master of athletic training as a program director at Buena Vista University (BVU), since 2016. In addition, he has helped a Rehabilitation Health Sciences Program, since 2018. Prior to coming to BVU, in 2016, Dr. Sugiura was an athletic trainer for several community sports teams. During his teaching career, he taught exercise physiology & athletic training courses. Dr. Sugiura is a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Iowa and is an Emergency Response Instructor.

Professional Engagements: Dr. Sugiura holds NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist certification, NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist certification, Functional Movement Screening (Level 1) certification, and Graston Instrument Manual Technique certification. He holds professional engagement memberships as follows: American Physiological Society, Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society, Mid America Athletic Training Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and National Athletic Trainers' Association.
