Dr. David A. Klee, Sr. is the Director of Jazz Studies/Music Production & Technology and Professor of Music at Buena Vista University (Iowa). He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Flute Performance and Music Education Degree from Mercer University (Macon, Georgia), the Master of Music Education Degree with an Emphasis in Flute Performance from the University of South Carolina, and the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Flute Performance from the University of Georgia in 1998. Dr. Klee also completed his Master Certificate in Music Production from Berklee College  (Boston) in 2007
Dr. Klee has been on the music faculty for several colleges and universities including Tift College, Mercer University, and Georgia College & State University. He was the director of Bands at Peru State College before starting his current tenure at Buena Vista University.
During his time living in Georgia Dr. Klee amassed considerable experience performing in symphonies, chamber groups, and as a recitalist across the Southeastern US. He has worked in several recording studios as a staff musician on flutes, saxes, and electric bass. Dr. Klee also worked as a freelance jazz musician in several jazz groups performing on woodwinds and electric bass. Dr. Klee has worked with many recording groups, or shows. He has backed up or toured with such acts as the Four Tops/Temptations, The Lettermen, The Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus, The Holiday on Ice Shows and The Ice Capades Shows among others. He has also performed in groups that included members from the Allman Brothers Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, the band Alabama, the Rolling Stones, and many others.
Dr. Klee is currently the principal flutist for both the Fort Dodge Area Symphony Orchestra and the Karl King Band and heads up his own jazz group, “The Jazz Express”, performing original music he has written. He is also a freelance musician and clinician throughout the mid-west performing on both flute and electric bass.
In his spare time Dr. Klee runs and manages his own recording/video studio called DAK Productions. He uses the studio to record audio/video for his YouTube channel as well as record flute and bass for client's various recording projects (internet based) from around the world.
