EDGEFest 2012 — the eighth annual outdoor rock concert sponsored by Buena Vista University’s (BVU) student-operated radio station, the EDGE (KBVU 97.5) — was held on May 19 at Sunset Park. The event, which attracted an audience of approximately 300, raised $1,600 and benefitted three area school and nonprofit organizations.

This year’s proceeds went to Dollars for Scholars programs at the Storm Lake public schools and St. Mary’s to support scholarships for college-bound students who plan to major in the fine arts ($600); The Bridge of Storm Lake, a youth and community outreach organization ($500); and the Hartley-Melvin Sanborn High School Band ($500), which was selected from proposals submitted by several area schools.

This year’s EDGEFest business sponsors were Doll Distributing of Spencer, Silk Screen Ink, Mo’s, Alley Cat Tattoo, Fitzpatrick Auto & Truck Center and Hy-Vee. BVU sponsors included the ROTC, Office of Admissions and Weekend Programming.
