If you know what you want to do in life, great. But maybe you don’t, and that’s okay too.
That’s all part of the adventure of going to Buena Vista University, having the freedom to explore a passion that will lead you to a career you will love, or discovering that you want to head off in new directions in your life.
Thousands of BVU graduates have had the same feelings, thoughts and questions about their future, and have gone on to rewarding careers.
Here is a list of the most popular majors at BVU in recent years, as shown by our class surveys, and what some of the graduates in those fields were doing in their first six months after graduation.
Education: We prepare teachers in all academic disciplines and most tend to stay in Iowa, although we do have students who relocate to surrounding states and a few who move to farther locations such Las Vegas, Phoenix, and cities in Texas and Colorado. Some go on to become principals, superintendents and other administrative positions.
Management/Entrepreneurship: New graduates report jobs as sales representatives, management trainees, financial representatives and loan processors at companies such as Wells Fargo, Target, Iowa Student Loan, ING, Hy-Vee Stores, and Fareway.
Marketing: Our graduates reported starting out as account executives, sales associates, recruiting coordinators, and account managers for companies that include Wells Fargo, Target, The Buckle, Scheels All Sports, and many other smaller businesses.
Biology: By and large, our biology majors go on to graduate schools all over the country, with about half enrolling in Iowa universities. Future professionals attend schools for medicine, veterinary medicine, optometry, dentistry, chiropractic, physical therapy and athletic training. Biology majors who don't go on to graduate or professional studies often teach or obtain research positions.
Exercise Science: These graduates head in many directions as well. Some go into business, while others enter health and fitness positions in places such as Lifetime Fitness, YMCA's, golf courses, and sports teams.
