Free Sailing!

Kiwanis Community Sailing is offering free sailing for the community. BVU English professor Matthew Packer will host open sailing next week Monday through Thursday, August 4-7, from 5pm to 8:30pm. This is an opportunity for sailors in the community to enjoy the lake and for anyone else to learn about sailing. Matt will give you free lessons or just a ride along in a sailboat. Come down one evening or all four. Wear your swimming suit and come prepared for fun. We have the life jackets and the sailboats. Matt and Kiwanis Community Sailing will help you from whatever sailing experience you bring along. Kiwanis Community Sailing sails from our dock just east of the Tree Museum at Geneseo Street and West Lakeshore Drive (under construction).- Matthew Packer

As a child do you remember going shopping for your new school supplies? The new school year is approaching us and many children in the Storm Lake area do not have the essential tools they need to help aid in their learning. From now until August 8th you can help make a child’s school year special by donating crayons, pencils, folders, paper, markers and any other supplies that you see fit. AlcoholEdu for College

Buena Vista University is one of hundreds of institutions nationwide taking a new approach to alcohol prevention...We are excited to offer our incoming freshman, AlcoholEdu for College – a science-based course taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year. The course aims not to preach but rather to educate students about alcohol and its effects on the mind and body.
Whether or not they drink, AlcoholEdu for College empowers students to make well-informed decisions and better cope with the drinking behavior of peers.
AlcoholEdu for College offers a confidential, personalized experience for each student. The course includes:
•5 modules of alcohol-related content
•Personalized feedback
•Interactive exercises
•Access to a student social networking site
BVU students were given access to begin the program July 25th and will complete the entire program by October 6th.
