Buena Vista University Head Women's Basketball Coach Janet Berry was honored on Feb. 7 at the last home game of the season. Berry is stepping down following the 2017-18 season to take over as the University's head women’s golf coach and director of golf operations.

Berry will remain an assistant professor of physical education; teaching for both Storm Lake and degree completion students. Current Associate Head Coach, Dana Christen, will assume the role of head women’s basketball coach.

Berry has patrolled the sidelines for the women's basketball program the last 26 years and is the all-time winningest coach at 389-286. She has guided the Beavers to five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) championships and five NCAA Tournament berths. BVU has missed out on the conference tournament only twice since the tournament began back in 1998-99.

Coach Berry's team won the game in thrilling fashion, defeating the University of Dubuque, 58-55. The Beavers overcame a 13-point fourth quarter deficit with a late basket from senior Jasmine Demers before a steal and layup from McKenna Whitehill added insurance in the final seconds.
