Buena Vista University Director of Athletics, Jack Denholm, has announced the hiring of Aubrey Havlichek as the University's new head volleyball coach, pending the completion of a successful background check.
“There is a great deal of support from President Merchant and the entire campus community, and I look forward to going after that championship that the program has been so close to on multiple occasions.”Aubrey Havlichek
Havlichek was hired as assistant volleyball coach at Finlandia University in Hancock, Mich., in August 2016 before taking over head coaching duties just over a month later. During her tenure, she coached a pair of First Team All-American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) First Team selections, as well as one Second Team and one Honorable Mention honoree. Despite limited time to assemble her first recruiting class, it did include an All-ACAA Freshman Team selection.
"I am super excited to begin as head volleyball coach at Buena Vista," says Havlichek. "There is a great deal of excitement within the program itself after its string of recent success, and I'm excited to continue building off of that success. There is a great deal of support from President Merchant and the entire campus community, and I look forward to going after that championship that the program has been so close to on multiple occasions."
In 2017, she guided Finlandia to a number one seed in the first-ever ACAA Championships and also had four Academic All-ACAA performers. Havlichek has also spent time coaching the UP Power Club in Houghton, Mich., as well as the Juggernaut Volleyball Club based in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
"We are excited to welcome Aubrey into the BVU family," says Denholm. "She impressed everyone through the interview process and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We are looking forward to bringing her on board and starting a new chapter for the BVU volleyball program."
A native of Thornton, Colo., Havlichek played volleyball herself at the collegiate level for four years at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich., from 2012-15. She was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter as an outside/right side hitter.
Havlichek earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sports and fitness management with a minor in coaching. She was a member of the Dean's List and an All-GLIAC Academic Selection.
