Buena Vista University’s Graduate & Professional Studies program opened its newest location at Sheldon on Sept. 5 in partnership with Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC).
“BVU is delighted to begin a new partnership with NCC by offering bachelor’s degree completion on the Sheldon campus,” says Dr. Suzi Kalsow, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of GPS at BVU. “We look forward to a long and dynamic partnership.”
This is the 16th site for BVU’s GPS program, which has locations across Iowa and was established over 30 years ago. The Sheldon program offers online degree completion programs in accounting, bachelor of applied studies, business administration, business economics, criminology and criminal justice, health services leadership, human services, finance and banking, management, marketing, organizational leadership, psychology, and public administration, with courses starting Oct. 22.
Although students can register for online courses immediately, face-to-face courses in education could begin as early as spring 2013, says Patsy Donovan, the north regional director for BVU’s GPS program. Teaching endorsements and other face-to-face courses from other programs could also be offered in the future.
“BVU’s partnership with NCC allows individuals in Sheldon and surrounding communities the unique opportunity to conveniently stay on campus and advance their degree after earning an associate’s degree,” says Donovan.
The site director at Sheldon will be Kaylyn Pick, who is also the director for BVU’s Le Mars location.
“BVU is dedicated to each of our community college partners and the communities we serve,” says Pick. “We have a strong academic reputation for providing bachelor’s degrees to geographically bound students. As the site director, I look forward to developing relationships that will enhance the cooperative educational offerings of BVU and NCC.”
An event is scheduled to take place in October to celebrate the opening of the new site. A date has yet to be determined.
