Trailing 2-0, the Buena Vista women's soccer team battled back with second-half goals from Tori Carson and Kellyn Arnold to send the game into overtime, but it was Luther College getting a goal midway through the first extra frame to edge the Beavers, 3-2.
Luther held a 7-1 shot advantage in the first half, and took a 1-0 lead into the half after a goal midway through the opening period.
The Norse then came out of halftime and made it a 2-0 game less than a minute into the second half. The Beavers weren't about to be outdone, though, using a 9-6 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes. Carson got BVU on the board in the 75th minute with her 15th goal of the year off a feed from Arnold. Six minutes later, the two players reversed roles with Arnold tallying her team-leading 18th goal of the year.
Luther (5-6-1, 1-2 IIAC) then got a shot from 40-plus yards out midway through the first overtime period to end the match.
Buena Vista falls to 9-4-1 overall (0-3 IIAC). Two of the team's three conference defeats this season have come in overtime.
The team returns to the field on Tuesday evening for a 5:30pm contest at 18th-ranked Wartburg College (9-1-2, 3-0 IIAC).
