The Buena Vista volleyball team came out and led late in the opening set against Central College on Tuesday night, but the Dutch rallied late to take the set and the match, 3-0.
BVU, which tallied 12 kills in the opening set, led 16-13, but the Dutch rallied to take the lead and hung on in the end to win, 25-20. After falling behind early in the second set, the Beavers fought back and got as close as three, but the rally came up short, 25-19. It was all Dutch in the third set, as BVU recorded 11 hitting errors and was dealt a 25-13 setback.
Sophomore Kirsten Van Zuiden finished the night with a match-high 10 kills on 24 attempts with Abby Hinrichs next with six. Sophomore Courtney Van Haaften dished out 16 assists and tallied eight digs, while fellow sophomore Jordan Henningsen led the way with 15 digs.
Tess Reinig led the Dutch (8-12, 2-3 IIAC) with seven kills.
Buena Vista is now 4-18 overall (0-5 IIAC). It will be back in action again on October 17 when it continues its league schedule with a road match at Loras College.
