St. Peter, Minn.
Freshman Tori Carson turned in her 16th goal of the season late in the match, but it wasn't quite enough as Gustavus Adolphus scored a goal in each half to edge the Buena Vista women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1.
The Gusties broke a scoreless match during the 19th minute and held onto that advantage going into the half. Each team finished the first 45 minutes with six shots apiece.
Midway through the second half, Gustavus Adolphus (6-8) pushed the margin to 2-0 with one of its four shots in the half.
Carson got the Beavers on the board with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation off a pass from Kelsey O'Connor. The goal extends the team's school record for goals in a season to 55.
Senior Kellyn Arnold chalked up eight of the team's 10 shots in the match, including four on-goal.
Fellow senior Turissa Moreland got the start in-goal and went the distance, chalking up three first half saves.
Buena Vista is now 9-7-1 overall and will return home to face the University of Dubuque (7-5-2, 3-1-1 IIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. It will also be Senior Day for the Beavers, who will honor their seniors prior to the start of the match which is scheduled to get underway at 2:00pm.
