The Buena Vista volleyball team played a pair of tough matches on Saturday afternoon, as it took part in the Carleton College Triangular. BVU fell in three sets to Carleton (15-5) to begin the day before coming up short in four sets against UW-Superior (15-8) to wrap up the day.
Against the host school, the Beavers were held to only eight kills combined through the first two sets before chalking up 15 in the third. Carleton took the first two sets, 25-7 and 25-9, respectively, while closing the match with a 25-19 win.
Kirsten Van Zuiden posted a team-high seven kills in the match, as Chelsea Clayton followed with six. The Beavers had four players with at least four assists in the match, led by Courtney Van Haaften's seven.
Against UW-S, BVU evened the match at 1-1 with a thrilling 26-24 victory in the second set. After being held to only six kills in the opening set, the Beavers tallied 14 in the second before adding 13 and 12 in the third and fourth.
Clayton led the charge with 15 kills overall, with Van Zuiden next at eight. Clayton also tallied a team-best four ace serves. Van Haaften and Ashley Lage each dished out 10 assists.
Buena Vista is now 4-17 overall and will return to the court on Tuesday night when it hosts Central College (3-) in an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) match-up beginning at 7:30pm. The JV match will be played first at 6:00pm.
