The Buena Vista men's basketball team heads into the final week of the regular season ranked fifth in this week's NCAA West Regional rankings which were announced earlier Wednesday afternoon. BVU was sixth in the first rankings of the year last week.
The Beavers split a pair of games a week ago, beginning with a tough 73-58 home loss to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday. The first rankings were posted as that game was concluding. The team, however, stormed right back in a big way on Saturday, cruising to a 70-41 home victory over Luther College; a team that was ranked eighth in that same poll.
With the Norse falling out of the rankings, BVU climbs one spot and sit at 17-6 overall and 16-6 in regional play. They climbed ahead of UW-Stout which is 17-5 in the region and was fifth in last week's rankings.
Buena Vista enters the final week of the regular season and has games at Wartburg College (13-9, 8-4 IIAC) on Wednesday night and at home against Coe College (15-8, 8-4 IIAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Wins by the team in both games would secure them at least a share of the IIAC regular season crown which would mark its 11th title in school history.
