The Buena Vista volleyball team was back on the road on Friday night, taking the short trip up north to Dordt College for a varsity only match, and it was the Defenders taking the match from the Beavers in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.
BVU posted 12 kills in the opening set and held a 23-22 lead late in the set before the Defenders took advantage of serving error to rally and score the final three points to take the frame.
Dordt then got out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second stanza and never looked back. BVU tried to rally late, getting within 20-17, but the Defenders scored five of the final six points to take the 2-0 lead.
Another fast start by the Defenders saw them build a 9-1 lead in the third before four straight points got the Beavers back within fighting distance at 12-8. BVU stayed close late, trailing only 20-17 before Dordt scored four straight to put the match away.
Sophomore Kristen Van Zuiden led the Beavers with nine kills, as Clayton and Abby Hinrichs followed with seven apiece. Sophomore Courtney Van Haaften dished out 20 assists and also added five digs. Van Zuiden, along with sophomore Jordan Henningsen, chalked up 11 digs, with Jena Peters chipping in with three block assists.
