For the first time since the renovations were completed to the track and football field last fall, the Buena Vista track and field teams were in action on their own surface on Saturday by hosting the BVU Open.

Competing against Iowa Central CC, the Beavers were able to get in a final tune-up before the start of the Iowa Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend.

Maggie Marker won the all-BVU 100 meter dash in a time of 12.70 seconds.  Casey James (12.99) and Laura Eberly followed.  Marker also took the 200 meter dash in 25.92 with Amber Woodford next in 26.08.  James, who took third, ran her fastest outdoor time of 26.51.

Abby Hesnard shaved two seconds off of her 400 meter dash time en route to a victory in 1:00.48.  Holly Neutzman and Jamie Oberg, who placed second and fourth, respectively, were running the event for the first time outdoors.

Rachel Burnette won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.82 – her second-fastest mark of the spring.  Olivia Nelson (17.04), who took third, shaved nearly a half-second off her best finish of the year.

Burnette was also victorious in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:07.75.

The 4x100 meter relay team, which currently holds the second-fastest time in the IIAC this season, ran its second-fastest time of the year (49.38).

In the field events, Vanessa Fiechtner matched her season-best height of 1.43.  Katie Shearer destroyed her previous best leap this season in the triple jump by going 9.22 meters.  Her best coming into today was 8.90 meters.  Erin Laursen won the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 38.98 meters.  Molly Hutchins, who took second, also threw her best throw (38.95 meters).

On the men’s side, Peter Winterton, who was running the 100 meter dash for the first time outdoors this season, won the event with a time of 11.27 seconds.  It was the second-fast time by any Beaver this season.  He also won the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.24 – also his fastest time of the year.  Alex Leeper took second in 23.38, marking his fastest clocking in the event.  Tyler Campbell also ran his fastest time.

Seth Woodson ran the team’s fastest time of the year in the 1,500 meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:09.09.

Andrew Smith nearly matched his best time in the 400 hurdles, winning the event in 55.37, just 0.06 seconds off of his time from last week’s Kip Janvrin Invite.

Alex Lamp won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:59.20, making him the first Beaver to break the 10-minute mark this season.

The 4x100 meter relay team ran the fastest time of the year, reaching the finish line in 42.39, while winning the event by nearly three seconds.  It’s also less than a second off of reaching the school record of 41.54.
