Special Interest Housing

(A more detailed outline of the Special Interest Housing option is included in the application packet. Other questions should be directed to Nate Buseman, Director of Housing.)

Application packets for Special Interest Housing will be available in Student Services on March 3rd. Applications in essay form are due to Student Services by 5pm on Wednesday, March 12th. Groups must sign up for a group interview in Student Services when the application is turned in. Students need to apply in groups of 6 and are required to have a cooperating faculty or staff member who works with them as an advisor. Special Interest Housing spaces have been set aside in Constitution 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 to accommodate these groups. Group interviews will take place in Student Services, March 25th March 26th. Notification of assignments will be made by March 31, 2008.

PLEASE NOTE: Students assigned to Special Interest Housing locations will need to sign a housing contract and submit their deposit slip to Student Services by no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2th.

Other Information:
Assignment to Special Interest Housing is determined on a yearly basis. Once a group has established a ‘theme' for a house, it is not automatically reassigned the following year. Themes may change from year to year. Groups who are interested in maintaining a ‘theme' for the following year will be required to go through the entire application process each year. Because of this, proposals should not include requests to greatly alter the current physical structure or design of a suite.

Only those applications determined by the interview panel to be well thought out and feasible will be awarded Special Interest Housing Assignments. Any spaces that are originally set aside for Special Interest Housing in the Suites which remain ‘unassigned' after the Special Interest Housing Assignments have been completed will become available through the Briscoe Honor, Constitution, and McCorkle Halls Selection Process.

Special Interest Housing groups are assigned based on academic and community value. Therefore, no events involving alcohol will be approved in Special Interest Housing locations. Moreover, groups applying for Special Interest Housing locations should be prepared for the possibility of having an alcohol-free living environment.

An informational meeting for Special Interest Housing will be held on Wednesday, March 5th at 7:00 p.m. in Forum Rm #3. Students interested in this option are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.
