Room Draw

Pierce/White/Swope Room Selection Process

All students currently residing in Pierce, White or Swope halls have the options to stay in their same room, change rooms within the same hall, or change buildings. Students who decide to change rooms will enter a lottery process and will select rooms by class year and lottery number. Once you have signed up for a room you may not change. All assignments are final and all contracts are binding.

SAME ROOM: Students wishing to reside in their current room again next year may do so by completing the following steps. Pay $25 to the Business Office and present the receipt at room draw lottery on Monday, April 14th between 9am and 5pm in Johnson-Cairnes next to the Student Leadership Center in the forum. Room deposits are non-refundable. At that time you will need to sign a housing contract and sign up for your room. Once you sign up for your same room it is FINAL. You may bring your current or new roommate with you to sign up at this time as well. Students who do not turn in their receipt by 5:00 pm on the 14th will have to wait until the Supplementary Room Draw on April 17th to select a room.

DIFFERENT ROOM, SAME BUILDING: To sign up for a different room in your same building, either on your current house or a new one, you must complete the following steps. Pay $25 to the Business Office and present the receipt at room draw lottery on Monday, April 14th between 9am and 5pm in Johnson-Cairnes next to the Student Leadership Center in the forum. Room deposits are non-refundable. At that time you will enter a lottery to pick your new room. You will draw a number and register to stay on the same house, or change houses within the same building. You should enter the lottery with your roommate for next year. You will each be able to pull a lottery number and we will go with the better of the two numbers. On Tuesday, April 15th you will actually select your room. Rooms will be selected according to class year and lottery number. Single rooms in Swope and Pierce Halls will be selected in this manner as well. Once you select a room on the 15th it is FINAL. Times for Selection will be handed out at the lottery sign up on April 14th. Students who do not turn in their receipt by 5:00 pm on the 14th will have to wait until the Supplementary Room Draw on April 17th to select a room.

CHANGE BUILDING: To move to a new building (either Pierce, White or Swope Halls) you should complete the following steps. You will draw a number and register to change buildings. You should enter the lottery with your roommate for next year. You will each be able to pull a lottery number and we will go with the better of the two numbers. On Wednesday, April 14th you will actually select your new room. Rooms will be selected according to class year and lottery number. Because of the popularity of some halls, there is no guarantee that spaces will be available in the hall or on the floor you are hoping to move to when it is your turn to pick a room. Once you select a room on the 16th it is FINAL. Times for Selection will be handed out at the lottery sign up on April 16th. Students who do not turn in their receipt by 5:00 pm on the 14th will have to wait until the Supplementary Room Draw on April 17th to select a room.

SINGLES: Designated singles in Swope and Pierce Halls can be selected during room draw. Individuals currently living in a single room may choose to return to the same room for the 2008-2009 academic year by following the procedures outlined above in the Same Room section. All single rooms remaining will be assigned through the lottery process. Individuals currently living in a single but not returning to the same single room do not receive any additional priority. They will choose according to the outlined system. Individuals may not elect to return to their single room and then try for a different, preferred single.

An informational meeting for the Pierce, White and Swope Hall process will be held Wednesday, March 26th at 8:00 pm in Forum Room 2. Students interested in living in any of these halls are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.
