Liberty Hall Room Selection ProcessLiberty Hall has been designated as a substance-free residence hall. This designation means that no alcohol or tobacco products (smoked or smokeless) will be permitted in the building. Students who have made the choice to avoid alcohol and tobacco have an option that will provide a living-learning environment free from the distractions related to alcohol and/or tobacco use.
Those students wanting to live in the substance-free environment of Liberty Hall must complete the following steps. Pay $25 to the Business Office and present the receipt at Liberty Hall room draw lottery on Tuesday, April 1st between 9am and 5pm in Forum Room 5. Room deposits are non-refundable. At that time you will enter a lottery by drawing a number to determine whether you will be eligible to pick a room in Liberty Hall. You should enter the lottery with the person with whom you hope to room with in Liberty. You will each be able to pull a lottery number and we will go with the better of the two numbers. On the evening of Tuesday, April 1st, all students who entered the lottery for a chance to live in Liberty Hall will be sent an informational email that outlines the anticipated picking order. Students who do not turn in their receipt by 5:00 pm will have to wait until the Supplementary Room Draw on April 17th to select a room in Liberty (if spaces remain).
On Wednesday, April 2nd rooms in Liberty Hall will actually be selected. Rooms will be selected according to class year and lottery number. Entering the lottery to live in Liberty does not guarantee that person a space in Liberty. Only after 5pm on April 1st (when the Liberty Hall lottery closes) will we be able to determine how many people want to live in Liberty and each person's individual chances of getting into the residence hall. To maintain a mix of students who represent all class years, 25% of the hall's total occupancy (approximately 20 spaces) will be set-aside for each class year. 5th year seniors get no special category. They are classified only as seniors. In the event that all senior-designated spaces aren't used by seniors, those spaces will trickle down to juniors, and so on.
After a room has been selected on April 2nd that housing assignment is FINAL. Actual times for Selection will be distributed in the email sent out on the 1st.
SINGLES: Designated singles in Liberty Hall can be selected during the Liberty Hall room selection process. All single rooms in Liberty will be assigned through this lottery process. Individuals currently living in a single elsewhere on campus do not receive any additional priority. They will choose according to the outlined system.
WHAT IF I DON'T GET INTO LIBERTY HALL? Students are always encouraged to make arrangements for back-up plans. Applications for the suites are due on April 2nd and Grand Hall lottery day is April 8th. Students hoping to live in Liberty will not know if they made it in until the evening of April 1st, leaving little time to try to find a group of students to apply for a suite with. Therefore, even though you may have your heart set on living in Liberty Hall, you are encouraged to also make arrangements for ‘What ifs?' It will more than likely be very difficult to find a suite group the night before apps are due. Applications for a suite can always be removed if you do get into Liberty Hall.
An informational meeting for the Liberty Hall room selection process will be held on Wednesday, March 26th at 7:00 pm in Forum Room 2. Students interested in living in Liberty Hall are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.
