Commencement Protocol
Graduates will assemble for Commencement at 1:30 pm in the location specified. Staff members will be on hand to assist graduates in lining up. It is imperative that graduates be at their designated locations or seats by 1:45 pm so that last minute instructions may be given, and to allow time to assemble for the procession.
The graduates will follow the faculty in the Commencement procession. While faculty are being seated, the Faculty Marshal will indicate to you, the graduates, where you will be seated.
After all faculty and graduates have processed to their seats, be alert to the platform party for cues. When the stage party sits, you are to sit. The Faculty Marshal will advise you when you are to stand for the conferring of the degrees. After the mass conferral of degrees, the graduate students should remain standing. The Faculty Marshal will escort the graduate students to the platform for their individual hooding. The undergraduate students should remain seated during the hooding ceremonies. After the hooding ceremonies, the Faculty Marshal will control the flow of the undergraduates from their seats to the platform. As soon as a row of students have left their seats, the next row should stand in unison and prepare to advance to the platform. Each graduate will get a card with his/her name and honors on it that will be used to announce you to the audience. The card needs to be presented to the Student Marshal as you approach the platform area.
After your name is read, you are to walk across the platform, shake hands with the President, and continue down to the main floor where you will shake hands with the faculty of your school or center, receive your diploma, and then return to your seat.
Male graduates should follow the example of the men on the platform. Female graduates may also follow the example of the platform party, or wear their mortarboards during the ceremony. Tassels are worn on the right side of your mortarboard until you receive your diploma and then are switched to the left.
After the ceremony, the platform party will be lead out by the Faculty Marshal followed by the faculty. The Faculty Marshal will then return to lead the graduates out, exiting two rows at a time.

Assembly Locations for Commencement
It is imperative that graduates be at the designated assembly areas by 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 22. Staff members will be on duty in the rooms to assemble the graduates for the procession. Graduates are to assemble in the following locations:
Spencer/Estherville/Spirit Lake/Emmetsburg - Siebens Forum-Goodenow Seminar Room 2
Council Bluffs - Siebens Forum-Ferguson Seminar Room 3
Creston - Siebens Forum-Anderson Auditorium
LeMars - Siebens Forum-Anderson Auditorium
