Seven hundred and seventy-five students are candidates for degrees from Buena Vista University with the 2012 Commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 26.
The number includes 180 undergraduates from the Storm Lake campus, 567 undergraduates who attended BVU’s Graduate and Professional Studies sites, and 28 who will receive master’s degrees in education.
Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark S. Cady will deliver the keynote address. Cady has been an adjunct faculty member at the Fort Dodge site of the GPS program since 1982, currently teaching Business Law and the Judicial Process. He has been selected for Faculty of the Year honors at the Fort Dodge location on several occasions and received adjunct Faculty of the Year honors for all GPS sites in 2001. He has also served on BVU’s President’s Advisory Council for a total of seven years.
Commencement ceremonies begin at 2:30 p.m. in Siebens Fieldhouse on the BVU campus. The baccalaureate service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Schaller Memorial Chapel. The order of worship for the baccalaureate Service will be transformed this year with the inclusion of contemporary music, use of 2012 BVU graduates and blessings from the BVU community, says Ken Meissner, BVU chaplain.
