B.A. Degree with a Major in History

Buena Vista University Graduate & Professional Studies is exclusively for students seeking to complete degrees begun elsewhere. We facilitate the smooth transfer of credits from Iowa Central Community College. This advising guide is effective for students entering BVU in the 2011-12 academic year. As course and degree requirements change, students are encouraged to consult with BVU personnel.

Iowa Central Community College has a full articulation agreement with Buena Vista University. Students who have completed an approved associate's degree at ICCC can seamlessly move on to complete a bachelor's degree through BVU.

AREA 1:
12 credit hours of the following courses in at least 3 fields:
U.S. History Field:
HIST 101 - History of the US to 1877....................................................................HIS 151 - U.S. History to 1877
HIST 102 - History of the US after 1877................................................................HIS 152 - U.S. History since 1877

World History Field:
HIST 111 - World Civilizations I
HIST 112 - World Civilizations II

European History Field:
HIST 121 - Emergence of Western Civ.................................................................HIS 112 - Western Civ: Ancient to Early Modern
HIST 122 - Revolutions of Western Civ................................................................HIS 113 - Early Modern to Present

Asian History Field:
HIST 125 - Asian Civilizations................................................................................HIS 211 - Modern Asian History

AREA 2:
9 credit hours HIST 300 level or above

AREA 3:
6 credit hours HIST electives

AREA 4:
HIST 481 - Historian's Craft (World) or
HIST 482 - Historian's Craft (U.S.)

Students must earn a minimum of 12 credit hours at the 300/400 level in their major from Buena Vista University. All transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis.
