Students Accepted to Iowa Collegiate Honor Band

Five Buena Vista University band members have been selected to participate in the 20th Annual Iowa Collegiate Honor Band.

Selected students include:

  • Ariana Butterfield – clarinet; from Canton, S.D., a sophomore instrumental music education major (k-12)
  • Shelby Cooper – clarinet; from Atlantic, a freshman instrumental music education major (k-12)
  • Shane Clune - baritone saxophone; from Pine City, Minn., a senior biology major
  • Kelsey Struck – horn; from Storm Lake, a sophomore instrumental music education major (k-12)
  • Arik Ostler – tuba; from Red Oak, a junior computer science major

This year marks Buena Vista University’s 15th year with students participating in the honor band. “It is a great opportunity for students to be under a conductor of national reputation,” said Jerry Bertrand, assistant professor of instrumental music at Buena Vista University.

The honor band will rehearse on the Iowa State University campus on Nov. 22 with a finale concert at Ames City Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. This year’s guest conductor for the Iowa Collegiate Honor Band is Robert Ponto, associate professor of conducting and director of bands at the University of Oregon.
