Vocal Jazz Show May 2 at Buena Vista University

The Buena Vista University (BVU) Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present its annual Jazz Show, Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

MCs for the show are Hannah Anderson, a junior theater management major from Boone, and Taylor Burgraff, a senior history major from Fairmont, Minn.

As the student director, Jacob Pedersen, a junior vocal music education major from Manson, has selected and rehearsed the Show Choir selections which include Waka, Waka and Good Time. Dr. Paula Keeler, assistant professor of music, prepared the students for the Jazz Choir selections including Up the Ladder to the Roof and Nice and Easy. Kylie Peterson, a senior music education major from Lincoln, Neb., choreographed the jazz opening selection. Additional choreographers for the show are Erin Nelson, director from Sioux City East High School, and Nicholas Andersen, a 2012 BVU graduate who is choral director at Lawton-Bronson High School.

Several vocal students will be performing solos offered throughout the production including Izaak Plunkett, a freshman communications major from Spirit Lake; Dennis Arteaga, a freshman arts management-music and arts management-theatre double major from Oelwein; Nicole Boysen, a freshman vocal performance major from Danbury; Kayla Shadlow, a senior vocal music education major from Storm Lake, and Jacob Pedersen.
