Back roads
From the Amerihost Inn, take a RIGHT onto Lake Avenue. Follow Lake Ave all the way to the end (past Bank Corners, over the railroad tracks, etc). You will come to a T-intersection with Lakeshore Drive, where you will turn LEFT. Follow this road through the stoplight and out of town. Lakeshore Drive will become Hwy 7 as you leave town.
At the intersection for Hwy 71, turn RIGHT (heading South). Follow Hwy 71 through the little town of Early. Watch for the road signs, because you'll have to turn LEFT (east) to keep following Hwy 71. Keep following Hwy 71 and you'll pass through Lake View and then come to Auburn. When you get to Auburn, you will have a stop sign at which you turn RIGHT.
Keep following Hwy 71 until you come to Carroll. At Carroll you will want to turn LEFT (at a Burger King and stoplight) onto Hwy 30. Follow Hwy 30 east through Carroll and keep following it toward Grand Junction. You will come to a stop sign that is the intersection of Hwy 30 and Hwy 144. Turn RIGHT onto Hwy 144, heading east again.
Keep following Hwy 144 as it twists and curves, taking you south and east. You will come to the town of Perry; keep following Hwy 144 south through town. At the stoplight intersection for Hwy 144 and Hwy 141, turn LEFT onto Hwy 141.
Follow Hwy 141 south and east until you get to the interstate (I-35). Take I-35 South and you will go south for a few miles and curve left. Watch for the I-235E exit, and get on I-235E.
Follow the signs to the airport.
Interstate
From the Amerihost Inn, take a RIGHT onto Lake Avenue. Follow Lake Ave all the way to the end (past Bank Corners, over the railroad tracks, etc). You will come to a T-intersection with Lakeshore Drive, where you will turn LEFT. Follow this road through the stoplight and out of town. Lakeshore Drive will become Hwy 7 as you leave town.
At the intersection for Hwy 71, turn RIGHT (heading South). Follow Hwy 71 through the little town of Early. Stay on Hwy 71 until you reach Hwy 20.
Turn LEFT onto Hwy 20 and follow it. You will go through such towns as Sac City, Lytton, and Rockwell City. Stay on Hwy 20 heading east. At Fort Dodge, the 2 lane road becomes 4 lanes.
Stay on Hwy 20 until you reach I-35S. Get on I-35S and take it to Des Moines. Watch for the I-235E exit, and get on I-235E. Follow the signs to the airport.
