The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  Successful candidates will be high school seniors or college attendees who are involved in some sport.  Award amount is $500 and applications materials can be found at http://www.bigsunathletics.com/.  Deadline is June 27, 2009. 

The Des Moines Women's Club is pleased to announce its Memorial Scholarships to be awarded to selected applicants in the spring of 2009.  Information regarding the $1000 scholarships can be found at http://www.desmoineswomensclub.org/.  Applicants may apply for only one scholarship and must be a woman beyond high school. Specific requirements can be found on the website.  Application deadline is January 30, 2009.


The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.

Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.

The Institute of Management Accountants is pleased to offer scholarships to finance and accounting students.  Applicants must be a member of IMA and must be pursuing study in accounting or finance.  More information, including application materials, can be found at www.imanet.org/scholarships Deadline:  February 15, 2009.  

The John Hughes Memorial Scholarship is available to students who have completed the junior year in college and are interested in a career in banking upon graduation.  Interested students must be majoring in business or a related field.  Applications are available in the Office of Financial Assistance and are due by April 3, 2009.

A media Scholarship is also available through the John Hughes Memorial Scholarship program.  To be eligible, a student must be an active news reporter/editor currently employed by a news organization operating in Iowa, with some emphasis reporting business and financial news.  Applications are available in the Office of Financial Assistance and are due by April 3, 2008.

These scholarships pay all room and board and tuition expenses for recipients to attend the Iowa Banking School. 

The American Planning Association is holding an essay contest for juniors and seniors in high school. Winners will receive a $5,000 scholarship. This year's theme is "Great Streets, Great Neighborhoods: Greening Streets and Neighborhoods." Please visit The American Planning Association's website for futher details.

The United State Navy Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program is available to students who are seeking enrollment into a medical school in the area of Medicine/Dentistry/Optometry. Accountemps/American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA) Scholarship Program is offering the following:

Accountemps/AICPA Scholarship - two $2,500 scholarships available to student affiliate members pursuing studies in accounting. Eligible students must have a declared major in accounting, finance or information systems and must have a cgpa of 3.0 or better with 30 or more earned hours, 6 of which must be in accounting.

RHODES SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHERS

This fellowship is designed to bring the best and the brightest young people to careers as teachers in New York City public schools. The scholarship will support 20 of the nation's most outstanding and accomplished recent college graduates as they pursue master's degrees at Teacher's College and prepare for careers as NYC K-12 teachers. Students will be selected based on academic accomplishments, financial need, demonstrated potential for leadership, and commitment to service and a career as an urban teacher. JOHN GYLES EDUCATION AWARDS

Awards are available to both male and female students who are residents of Canada or the USA. A minimum CGPA of 2.7 is required. Selected students will receive up to $3,000. FAMILIES OF FREEDOM SCHOLARSHIP FUND

This fund was established to provide education assistance for postsecondary study to members of families impacted by events of September 11. Inquire at the Office of Financial Assistance for more information.

IOWA SCOTTISH RITE MASONIC EDUCATIONAL FUND

This is a LOAN program available to Iowa residents and may be extended to out-of-state students attending an Iowa college/university. Applicants must show financial need and have completed at least one year of college. A transcript must be submitted to show evidence of further academic success (sophomores must have a 2.75 c.g.p.a. and juniors, seniors and graduate students must have a 2.5 c.g.p.a. Three character references need to be submitted as well. Student may borrow up to $2000/year up to an aggregate total of $6,000. Principal payments need not be made until the loan recipient's education is completed or discontinued. Current interest rate is 6% per year and payments should be made in semi-annual installments.
