



The Buena Vista women's tennis team held its annual end-of-the-year banquet on Wednesday night at BozWellz here in Storm Lake and announced its team awards for the fall 2011 campaign.
Senior Emily Gutschenritter was voted on by her peers as this year's MVP. She finished the year with six wins in singles play and five more in doubles play. Sophomore Hailey Henrichs was tabbed as the Most Improved Player. For the year, she posted eight singles wins and five doubles. Fellow sophomore Elizabeth Heffernan earned the team's Sportsmanship Award. She also captured eight singles wins on the year to go along with six more in doubles play.
Also recognized was freshman Mary Jane Ferguson, who highlighted the team with her runner-up performance in the Flight C singles bracket during the Iowa Conference Tournament. She also led the team for the year with 11 singles wins and six more in doubles play.
Buena Vista finished the season at 5-8 overall (2-6 IIAC) and landed seventh in the final league standings. That mark was its highest since tying for seventh back in 1998. The team also posted 46 singles wins on the year, doubling last year's total
