Buena Vista senior forward Kellyn Arnold has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Women's Soccer First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The DIII men’s and women’s teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for Academic All-American consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Arnold, who was a Third Team Academic All-American a year ago, becomes just the second two-time selection in program history, but the first to land a spot on the First Team. She was one of five players on this year’s first team to be named an Academic All-American multiple times.
A mathematics major with a 3.96 GPA, Arnold turned in a career-year on the field, leading the IIAC in goals with a school-record 20 en route to earning the program’s first-ever First Team All-IIAC selection. She also spent most of the year ranked in the top-10 nationally in goals scored. She also dished out four assists, and her 44 total points was also a league-high.
The Capital One Academic All-American program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 Academic All-American teams program.
