Off to its best start in school history, the Buena Vista women’s soccer team is also sitting high nationally in several statistical categories with less than a week to go before opening its 2012 Iowa Conference schedule.

Senior Kellyn Arnold (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), the school’s all-time leader in goals scored, highlights the list as she is tied with two others for the national lead in total goals this season at 13 and with one other in total points (28).  She reached the mark after posting her fourth hat trick of the year on Sunday against Alverno College, scoring three goals and also adding an assist.  She’s also tied for eighth in goals per game at 1.625 and ninth in points per game (3.50).

Junior Shelby Ripperger (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit North) is third in assists with eight, trailing two others for the national lead at nine.  She’s tied for seventh in assists per game at 1.00 and 14th in total points (18).

A couple of freshman also find themselves high up on the leaderboard for the Beavers.  Tori Carson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) is tied for 19th in points per game (3.00), tied for eighth in total assists (6) and sixth in total points (24).  Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jaclyn Pfeifer (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park) is ranked 19th in goals against average (0.198) and 24th in save percentage (.933).

As a team, BVU has scored 36 goals for the year (2nd highest total) and is 10th nationally in goals per game (4.50).

Buena Vista is 7-0-1 on the year and can match a school record for wins in a single-season with a win at Faith Baptist Bible College on Thursday afternoon.  It will then begin its quest to make its first-ever Iowa Conference Tournament, when it begins league play on Saturday, September 22, with a road contest at defending regular season co-champion and IIAC Tournament Champion, Loras College.
