The Buena Vista wrestling team placed four individuals during the 2012 Quality Hotel Open on Saturday, hosted by Hastings College (Neb.).

Junior Brian Broll was the lone champion for the Beavers, dropping down for the first time this season and competing at 184 pounds.

"Brian did a great job of staying in good position today," said BVU head coach Sevond Cole.  "He stayed calm and poised in some tough matches.  You would never have guessed that this was his first time down to 184. He had a lot of energy and scored a lot of points in the third period."

Fellow junior Austin Mogg took runner-up honors at 125 pounds.

"Austin really looked good today," Cole said. "While he didn’t win the tournament, he did find the level of intensity that he needs to compete at. Every minute of every match he was looking to gain the upper hand."

Joe Klinkel and Hunter St. John also placed for BVU, taking fourth and fifth places, respectively.

"Joe was really close to finding himself in the finals of this tournament," added Cole. "He has really worked on his riding skills this year and today it really paid off.  He was able to score some valuable points on top giving him the edge in many of his matches today.

Hunter wrestled with a lot of courage today.  Not only did he wrestle well after dropping down a weight class but he battled back to win his last match after injuring his shoulder."

Complete results of the Open are not currently available and will be posted to this story when they do.

Buena Vista will return to action on Tuesday night when the team wrestles the first of two home duals this week, hosting Briar Cliff University in a 7:00pm match-up.
