The Buena Vista wrestling team closed out its regular season dual meet schedule on Wednesday night with a pair of non-conference duals against GPAC foes, Morningside College and Northwestern College.  The Beavers topped the Red Raiders, 28-27, before falling to the host Mustangs, 35-13.

BVU got out to a quick lead against the Red Raiders, chalking up pins in each of the first three bouts, en route to an 18-0 lead.

Northwestern then won by injury default at 149 pounds and got a pin at 157 to claw back within 18-12 before freshman Seth Shatto extended the Beaver lead to 22-12 with a 10-2 win at 165 pounds.

The Red Raiders then won three straight matches, including two pins, to grab a 27-22 advantage before Matt Sefcik rolled off a first period pin to clinch the match for the Beavers.

Against the Mustangs (7-6), Mogg improved his season record to 36-10 with a pin late in the second period.  He now has 16 pins on the year, moving him within two of the program’s single-season record set by Dail Fellin in 1986-87 and later matched by Tom Mashek in 1991-92.

Berardesco picked up his second win of the night and 19th of the year with a 17-5 vicotry voer Alex Rust.  The Mustangs then won six straight matches before senior Joe Klinkel won 7-6 at 197 pounds.

Buena Vista wraps up its dual schedule at 4-10 on the year.  The team will now send wrestlers to the Briar Cliff University Open in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday.  Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:00am.
