Junior Brooke Wehle (Denison, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) turned in 11 points, while senior Jessica Christensen (Turin, Iowa/West Monona) added nine points, six rebounds and four steals, but the Buena Vista women’s basketball team couldn’t quite overcome a cold shooting night, as the Beavers fell on the road at Loras College (14-7, 9-3 IIAC), 61-42, on Wednesday night.
Wehle went a perfect 3-of-3 from the field, including 2-of-2 from long range, while making all three free-throw attempts. Senior Amanda Roder (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's) chimed in with seven points and seven rebounds, while junior Tara Lehner (Le Mars, Iowa/Le Mars) added eight rebounds.
BVU, which trailed only 27-26 at the half, struggled to find its shooting touch in the second half, converting only 14 percent of its attempts (4-of-28), while finishing at 25 percent for the game.
The Duhakws scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 35-26 lead before pushing it to 15 (46-31) with a little more than eight minutes to play.
Christensen then nailed her only three-pointer of the game and sank two free-throws to help pull BVU back within nine with 6:35 to play.
Loras then made a long range shot of its own to go back up 12 and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Lindsey LaBadie turned in a game-high 17 points to help lead the Duhawks.
Buena Vista is now 9-11 on the year (4-7 IIAC) and will be back inside of Siebens Fieldhouse this Saturday for alumni weekend. The JV team will take on the BVU alumni at 12:00pm with the varsity team to host Coe College at 4:00pm.
