Oct. 25, 2011
Storm Lake, Iowa

The Buena Vista volleyball team nearly came away with wins in each of the first two sets against Coe College on Tuesday night, but the Kohawks rallied at the end of both to win each before taking the match in three sets.

The Beavers were staring at set-point in the opener, leading 24-22, but the Kohawks then ran off four straight points to take the set, 26-24.  The second set was back-and-forth as well before a serving error late by Coe gave BVU a 23-21 lead.  Again, though the Kohawks came storming right back with four straight points to win the set, 25-23.  Coe then scored the first three points of the third set and extend the lead to seven at 14-7 and BVU wasn't able to get any closer than that from there, falling 25-15.

Senior Lacie Drennan, one of four players taking the court inside of Siebens Fieldhouse for the last time, helped lead the charge offensively with 12 kills and a .321 hitting percentage.  She also moved into second place on the school's single-season kills list with 430 on the year.  Fellow senior Kacie Woodley was close behind with six kills, to go along with three total blocks.  She also moved past 200 kills on the year and now has 204.  Freshman Courtney Van Haaften climbed the single-season assist chart up to fourth with her 23.  She now has 1,156 on the year.  Defensively, senior Kelsey Essick jumped up to sixth on the single-season chart with a team-leading 14 more against the Kohawks.  She now has 444 on the year.  Kirsten Brown closed the book on her home career by leading the way with four total blocks.

Buena Vista sits at 9-22 overall (0-7 IIAC) and will wrap up its season on Thursday night with an Iowa Conference match at Simpson College, starting at 7:30pm
