The Buena Vista volleyball team returned to action on Wednesday night riding a two-match win streak, but the Beavers would see that streak come to an end, as Coe College (13-6, 3-0 IIAC) took the Iowa Conference match in three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-22.
BVU posted seven kills in the first set before being held to five and six, respectively, in the final two. Meanwhile, the Kohawks were in double-figures each set, including a match-high 18 in the third.
Juniors Chelsea Clayton and Jena Peters each had six kills to help lead the way offensively with no other player tallying more than two. The duo also recorded four block assists, as sophomores Egypt Clayton and Kirsten Van Zuiden followed with three. Sophomore Courtney Van Haaften dished out 10 assists and also had one of the team’s two ace serves. Sophomore Jordan Henningsen chimed in with 11 digs.
Rachel Schaefer led all players with 16 kills to help lead the Kohawks.
Buena Vista is now 4-13 overall (0-3 IIAC) and will step out of league play for a JV/V road doubleheader at Mt. Marty College on Friday night. The JV match is scheduled for 6:00pm with the varsity to follow at 7:30pm.
