



The Buena Vista men's tennis team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. The Beavers fell in their opener, 7-2, to Cornell College before bouncing back for a thrilling 5-4 non-conference triumph over Doane College.
The Rams edged BVU in both the number 1 and number 2 doubles matches, winning 8-5 and 8-4, respectively. Keifer Nevius and Cole Renken picked up their fourth win of the year by picking up an 8-5 decision and putting BVU on the board.
In singles play, Cornell took five of the six bouts, but two of them went into the third set tiebreakers. Adam Gustad dropped a heartbreaking match in the number one slot, 6-4, 2-6, 13-11, while Jason Ehrhardt did the same in his number three bout, 6-4, 0-6, 10-6.
Cole Renken upped his win streak to four with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the number five match.
Gustad and Ehrhardt bounced back for a commanding 8-3 win in their number one doubles bout, while Nevius and Renken moved to 5-1 on the year with an 8-5 triumph at number three.
Renken extended his win streak to five with a 6-1, 6-1 win in his number five singles bout, while Nevius and Mike Sporer also chipped in with straight set victories.
Buena Vista is now 4-5 overall (1-4 IIAC) and will be back out on the courts on March 24 with matches against Westminster College (12:00pm) and Central College (3:00pm) in Pella, Iowa.
