St. Mary's University (Minn.) broke a scoreless match with a goal late in the 65 minute, and that proved to be the game-winner on Wednesday night, as the Cardinals edged the Buena Vista men's soccer team, 1-0.
The two teams tallied just one shot on-goal each over the first 45 minutes, despite combining for 19 shots. SMU (5-6) went on to out-shoot the Beavers in the second half, 12-4.
Tyler Huntsman chalked up a team-high five shots for BVU, while Joey Stivers and Steve Gutschenritter each followed with two. Huntsman also had two of the team's three shots-on-goal in the match.
Michael Rydberg was solid in-goal chalking up five saves, while allowing just the one goal.
Buena Vista is now 5-5-1 overall this season and will return to league play on Saturday night for a 7:30pm contest against Luther College.
