Brunick Leads Men's Golf during Spring Opener

Senior Mitch Brunick turned in a four-over 75 and finished tied for ninth, just three shots off the lead, as he and the Buena Vista men’s golf team opened its spring season on Tuesday during the Simpson College Invite.

Brunick turned in a 39 on his front nine, while closing with a 36 on the back nine of the 6,369-yard, par-71 course.  Jaron Smool carded an 82 to finish tied for 28th, while Connor Dondale tied for 41st with an 84.  Senior Troy Ticknor, who was forced to sit out the entire basketball season due to a torn ACL, was back out on the course and turned in an 88 to tie for 62nd.  Andrew Zinn wrapped up the line-up for the Beavers with a round of 93.

As a team, the Beavers finished tied for sixth among the 14 teams taking part with an overall score of 329.  The team tied with its “B” team, which was led by Nick Johnson’s 79.  NIACC finished nine strokes in front of both BVU teams to take fifth.  Wartburg College (299) edged out DMACC by three strokes to take the team title, as AIB was third at 312.

The Beavers will be back out on the course next week when it travels to Litchfield Park, Ariz., for its spring break trip.  The team will play a dual against Grand Canyon University on Monday, April 2, beginning at 1:00pm.
