Buena Vista senior Doug Bissen was honored by the Iowa Conference this week, by being named the league's Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It marks the fourth time in the final five weeks that BVU landed this honor, including the first such for Bissen this season.
He averaged 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for the week, as the Beavers won the Iowa Conference men's basketball tournament. He hit two free throws in the tournament final against Coe to tie the game at 48-48 and helped spark a 7-0 run late in the game to put Buena Vista ahead 53-48. Those two free-throws also gave him 1,000 career points.
He enters play in the NCAA tournament with 1,000 career points and sits two away from 600 career rebounds.
He also turned in 12 points and four rebounds in the win over Simpson during Thursday's semifinal triumph.
BVU is 17-10 overall and will face #24 Washington University (Mo.) in Friday's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament first round. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
