Buena Vista sophomore guard Cole Darrow (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) has earned recognition from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by being named its Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending, January 13.
Darrow averaged a team-high 15 points over two games, as BVU picked up a thrilling 79-74 home victory on Wednesday night over Loras College before chalking up a 70-68 overtime victory at the University of Dubuque on Saturday. The win over the Spartans was the team’s 10th straight overall.
In the win over the Duhawks, Darrow turned in a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds before following that performance up with a team-leading 14 points, including a 3-of-4 effort in overtime from the free-throw line. He also chipped in with seven boards.
For the year, he is second on the team in scoring at 11.7ppg, while hauling in 5.8 rebounds.
It’s the third time this season that BVU has earned IIAC Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week accolades (Wes Nordquist twice) and the second Athlete of the Week honor.
Buena Vista is currently 11-3 overall (3-0 IIAC) and will look to match its longest win streak since rattling off 11 straight back in 2008-09 when it travels to Luther College (10-4, 3-0 IIAC) on Wednesday night for an 8:00pm contest.
